- Q: Who are you?
- A: Hi! I'm Sawteeth. I'm a 19 year old Korean guy who loves music!
- Q: What is Jungle Fatigue?
- A: Jungle Fatigue is a jungle/DnB(but not limited to) label based in Seoul, South Korea. Our releases are free to download/stream on Bandcamp. Although it is on a temporary halt due to my military service, we used to regularly release on tapes and vinyl as well. We are probably best known for our Jungle Fatigue compilations which seem to gather a lot of attention online.
- Albeit our sound is heavily inspired by the "oldskool", our focus is not on recreating the past itself. We aim to make something future-proof! We want the best of both worlds—staying cutting-edge while maintaining the classic, timeless vibe.
- Q: What gear do you use?
- A: Most of the work is done on a stock M1 MacBook Air with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It's not amazing spec-wise, nonetheless it has served me well for almost 5 years! I mostly use Logic Pro when I produce but I do use hardware from time to time for certain tasks(resampling, send & return etc.) or for its workflow.
- Below is my gearlist:
- ===PLAYBACK/RECORDING DEVICES===
- 1) A pair of Technics SL-1200mk3d turntables for listening, sampling and DJ'ing
- 2) NAD 6240 Stereo Cassette Deck for listening, sampling and dubbing
- 3) Two Tascam 322's & one Tascam 302mkii tape decks synchronized altogether for dubbing
- ===SYNTHS===
- 1) Roland Alpha Juno 2 synthesizer
- 2) Yamaha DX7 synthesizer(it's used as a master MIDI keyboard really)
- 3) Roland JV-1080
- 4) Korg Volca Keys for FX/dub sirens
- ===SAMPLERS===
- 1) Akai S-950 rackmount sampler w/ Gotek installed
- 2) EMU E-6400 rackmount sampler w/ ZuluSCSI
- 3) Roland S-760 rackmount sampler
- ===EFFECTS===
- 1) Alesis QuadraVerb rackmount effect
- ===SEQUENCERS===
- 1) Atari 520STE(expanded w/ 4MB of memory) running Cubase 3 MIDI sequencer
- 2) MPC2000XL used as a standalone sampler/sequencer
- ===MIXERS===
- 1) Mackie CR-1604 16-channel mixer(its pre-amp distortion is nice!)
- 2) Tascam M-208 8-channel mixer(surprisingly clean sounding mixer given its age)
- 3) Vestax PMC-05 pro II DJ mixer
- ===OTHERS===
- 1) Yamaha CMX100 III 4-track multi-track cassette recorder
- 2) Alesis ADAT(Original)
- 3) Yamaha NS-10M Monitoring Speakers
- 4) Boss DR-110 Analog Drum Machine
- Well these gears are really fun to use and they do add a certain flavor to the sound. However they(especially decades old gears) need regular maintenance which can be a pain. I think plugins such as RX950, TAL-DAC and Amigo should be good enough for most reasonable people who aren't masochists.
- Q: How do you make your album covers?
- A: Most of the time I work with a 3D software called Infini-D 4.5(1998) on Mac OS 9 environment. The UI might be a bit intimidating at first glance but the key concepts are pretty much identical to those of modern softwares such as Blender. I also use Bryce 3D from time to time but not that much these days. I've been trying to get into POV-Ray lately!
- Q: Do you DJ?
- A: Yes! I used to host my own monthly show on a local radio station Visla FM. Now I occasionally play at small venues(Clique Records etc.) in Seoul with my friends haha. Hit me up if you want me to play at your event/venue!
- Q: I want to collab with you, are you open?
- A: I mostly only work with my friends but still feel free to send me a message. I will listen to it.
- Q: I want to submit my tunes for a release on Jungle Fatigue Records. Are you open?
- A: The submissions are closed as of now but I will make an announcement if that changes.
- Q: Why did you delete your YouTube channel?
- A: I deleted it because I wanted to focus on making music. I felt like I was wasting too much time refreshing videos to see if a new comment had been posted.
- Q: I have a question/problem with my physical order. What should I do?
- A: Please contact me via e-mail and let me know of the details. I will do my best to help you.
- Q: Is there a jungle "scene" in Korea?
- A: Not really, it's a very niche genre here. However Planet Turbo crew(Mordecai & Shins) have been playing a lot of good jungle in Itaewon, Seoul in recent years. Big up Planet Turbo!
